The Pope High School Marketing Class came up with the idea of taking an empty room and turning it into a coffee shop.  We designed the room and built the cabinet and countertops.

  • We left many of the cabinets as open so that things would be easier to find and to keep the cost down.
  • We used birch plywood and a dark stain to help the units hold up to wear and tear over time.
  • We used a slate grey laminate top for easy cleaning and low maintenance.

Shower Niches

Author: Clark

We like to incorporate niches into our showers.

Niches give the shower a custom look and add practical storage space for the homeowner.

We like to make our niches stand out by incorporating deco tiles and leftover counter top material.

Lacing Hardwood Floors

Author: Clark

Dont want to remove a wall  because you are afraid the floor patch will Stand out?

No Problem, with the help of our friends at Authentic Hardwoods owned by Mike Keroack, you will never know the difference.

Here is an example of a  kitchen renovation we just completed.  We removed a wall and installed a beam that made the opening span 12 feet.  It was extremely important for the two floors to blend seamlessly so that they would feel like one space.

We Remove the wall and closet to the right of the cased opening and installed a beam.  This left a void in the hardwood flooring.

A Repurposing Project

Author: Clark

We love to take the opportunity to reuse materials. It’s greener, it’s a huge money-saver (no need to buy new boards or other materials wherever these are going, and no fees to put them in a dumpster and dispose of them), and it instills a sense of history into a home. Would you ever have thought these planks from the roof:

Could be transformed into such a gorgeous counter?:

Another advantage of using repurposed boards is that they often come in wider dimensions than what you can find on the market today. Forestry practices have changed – for example, you just don’t find nice wide pine boards anymore. When you do your renovation, you may be sitting on a gold mine of these great boards. Check the attic floors and roof boards. Your contractor may be able to incorporate them into the design of your home.

I was looking through my portfolio photos the other day and decided to show off some of the custom built staircases we are proud of. I hope they can inspire you when you are making decisions about your own staircase projects:

We create a ‘drainage plain’ behind all of our siding. We developed our methods by combining methods taught by Southface,  the EEBA, and the holy grail of building science ,Joseph Lstiburek’s Builders Guide to Mixed Humid Climates.
